Consumers > Transaction Levy – Consumers
Starting April 1, 2026, every consumer vehicle purchase or lease from a licensed BC motor dealer will include a $10 Transaction Levy.
This small levy helps the Vehicle Sales Authority of British Columbia (VSA) continue to protect consumers, educate the industry, and improve services for everyone buying or leasing a personal-use vehicle in BC.
Theย Transaction Levyย is a fixed $10 charge that the VSA applies to licensed motor dealers for each consumer transaction involving a motor vehicle, as defined in BCโsย Motor Dealer Act. Dealers are permitted to pass this cost on to consumers. If they choose to do so, BC law requires the levy to be itemized on theย bill of saleย orย lease agreement to ensure transparency. The levy is similar to those in other provinces such as Alberta and Ontario, and supports the VSAโs efforts to keep fees fair, stable, and transparent. The levy is taxable, so applicable taxes will appear on the total amount if the dealer passes it along.
The Transaction Levy applies to consumer vehicle sales or leases, including consignment sales where the buyer is a consumer.
A โconsumer transactionโ generally means the vehicle will be used primarily for personal, family, or household purposes.
