You may make the report anonymously. However, if you have purchased from an unlicensed dealer, the VSA has very limited authority to assist you.

The VSA can issue compliance orders and administrative penalties to curbers and other unlicensed sellers.

𝗣𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘂𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴:
The maximum penalties are $100,000 for a business and $50,000 for an individual.

Here's how it works:

📊 Appraised Value: Dealerships will assess your used vehicle based on mileage, condition, and market trends to offer you a fair trade-in value. You can negotiate this with the dealer.

💸 Deduct from New Car Price: The appraised value becomes a tax-saving tool! This trade-in price is deducted from the sales price of your new vehicle.

🔄 Example: Trading in a $25,000 vehicle for a new $60,000 vehicle. Your taxable purchase price would be reduced to just $35,000.

⏰ Timing Matters: To qualify, ensure the trade-in occurs at the time of agreeing on the new car purchase.

💸 Finance placement fees are negotiable fees charged by some dealers to arrange financing with a bank or finance company.

📄 These fees must be disclosed prior to the agreement being signed and must be included in the Annual Percentage Rate (APR) calculations.

🚫 It is improper for a dealer to indicate the fee is required by the lender if it is not.
