The Vehicle Sales Authority (VSA) is pleased to confirm that there will beย no licensing fee increasesย for motor dealers and salespeople for the fiscal year beginningย April 1, 2026.
In addition, two fee reductions will take effect:
These updated fees will come into effect onย April 1, 2026.ย For further details, including a complete list of fees, please refer to the full fee schedule availableย HERE.
Pat Poyner, Registrar of Motor Dealers, has determined that the annual $300 dealer contribution to theย Motor Dealer Customer Compensation Fundย (the “Fund”) can be waived for the VSAโs fiscal year of April 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027.
The Motor Dealer Actย requires motor dealers make contributions to the Fund for a minimum of 3 years before they are eligible to participate in a fee waiver; therefore,ย new motor dealers are not affected by this announcement and will be required to pay the fee.
The Fund was established by the Provincial Legislature in 1995, replacing a $15,000 dealer bond that was found to be too expensive and inadequate.
The Fund compensates individuals who have purchased a motor vehicle from a licensed dealer and incurred a financial loss as a result. Eligible losses are defined by regulation and include dealership business failure, dishonest conduct or failure by a licensed dealer to provide clear title to the purchaser. An independent Board, the MDCCF Fund Board, determines who is eligible for compensation. Board members consist of industry and public-at-large members.
An overview of the claim and decision history, including individual claim outcomes and summaries, are available on the VSA websiteย HERE.
